Friday Travel Photo: Glendalough, Ireland

This week’s “Friday Travel Photo” comes from reader Sonja Garvey of Falls Church, Va. Here, she explains her snapshot: This photo was taken on a fall trip to Ireland. In the heart of Wicklow Mountains National Park in a town called Glendalough, there is an ancient monastery founded by St. Kevin in the sixth century. It was eerie walking through the partially destroyed monastic grounds that had old stone churches, a graveyard and a 103-foot-tall round tower, dating back between the 10th and 12th centuries. Nowadays, the wild Irish roses and grazing sheep have taken over the site. Send us your photos: Want your snapshot to appear in Startle’s “Friday Travel Photo” feature? Send your favorite travel shot to photos@startle.com. Tell us your name, where you live, a description about your photo (what is it, where is it?) and a caption (if you like). We’ll choose the best and post them on Fridays.
